Clarion River/Clear Creek 6/23/08- 6/24/08

Fished the Clarion in and around Clear Creek State Park.

The water is very stained. The Clarion is known for being really murkey but this was the murkiest of the 4 times I have been there. The water is getting low and warming.

Rain storms killed the first night but by morning I saw lots of what looked like bwo's all over the top of the tent. Camped right on the river in Clear Creek S.P. (no risers in the river at any point)

Took a hike along Clear Creek both in and out of the park. Nice brookie water. Threw in bits of sticks in likely holding spots and fish came up and checked them out. I saw a few hold overs in the lower parts of the creek and swimming beach area. The water was very cold in the creek. Seems like some of the river fish are making there way into the cooler creek waters.

It was more of a campout than fishing. Sometimes painful to be close to water and not fish but then I would not have gotten a chance to drink many IC lights.

The park was nice and offers decent fishing but the better water for this time of year is upstream aways.

I like Clear Creek...fished it on the way home from the opener one year...Caught lots of Brookies as you said...When I arrived I saw a spot that looked like it might hold a large fish and intended to fish it but I caught a few just upsteam and just kept going...the pic below is of the fish from that exact spot and the lady who caught it When I returned on the way back to the car...I would have released it...

I thought that Clear Creek SP was closed for a chunk of the summer while the DCNR does repairs and improvements to the park. Maybe it hasn't started yet.

I really like the creek. It's a fun small stream. Not the best for bait fishermen, but a fun place to throw some nymphs (and drys).

I go camping there with my Dad during Spring Gobbler. I fish in the morning while my Dad hunts, and then we fish outside of the park the rest of the time on some of the other streams in the area.
