Had an absolute blast today in the rain on the CL Outlet. I'm still learning to cast in close quarters conditions. Had a couple hits on a grey nymph pattern I kinda made up, but nothing too serious. Saw plenty of browns and rainbows. Seems they were hungry for baitfish imitations as a friend of mine was using a Rapala was getting quite a few follows.
I'm trying to swith him to fly fishing but he's leaving for Afghanistan. He said when he comes back. We turned down his Rapala barbs and he guesses that's why he lost a couple.
I did have about a 15" carp nail one of the grey nymphs I tied and take off with it. Ripped it clean off the 5x tippet and all I saw was a splash. I think he'd have almost been a little much for my Aleka 4WT anyways!
So if you're going, a local guy caught one on a Pheasant Tail Nymph, a caddis emerger and I think a Cahill? That's his story anyways.
