Threw my rod, chest pack and some old sneakers in the truck on a whim, since I had to pick up a check for work I had done on a job overlooking the West Branch. When I was working there the water was tepid but after the coolest Aug. I can remember it was 68 at 10:30. Very clear and of course no bug activity on a bright, sunny day. On my second drift I caught a brown that was a little thin but seemed to be in good shape. (green caddis pupa) Missed another in the same riffle, and then landed a rainbow pushing 13" in the lower part of the run. (Black ant) Fished back though and decided the theory had been proofed, and I'd better get home before my transgressions were detected. Normally I don't even consider trout fishing in Del Co. this time of year but the rains have been pretty steady and the temps excellent, especially as of late. Now for some rain and time to hit some limestone streams!
