Fished off the beaten path today and explored new water after talking for quite some time with a long time local. Rained the previous day so flows were up a tad but the water was still relatively clear, water was in the low 60's. Air temp was cooler today and overcast with scattered sprinkles.

Good caddis hatch and a fair number of sulphurs. The birds were loving it. Only saw a few risers and happened to snatch a 10" rainbow on a downstream presentation on an EHC out of a swift glide along the banks. Other than that, caught 7 more, mostly browns, on sz 14-16 frenchie nymph with a red collar. Tried caddis pupa and other pheasant tail variations and found the frenchie to attract the most attention. Found them in all sorts of water...riffled, flat, deep. Good challenging fishing in a nice isolated environment.

Chester has been fishing well all season (as have most Southeast streams I've fished) due to way more water than we usually have. Also more guys are releasing fish; many of the trout show signs of that. Fished it a few days back and didn't report since it was pretty much the same as my last one, other than an 18'' rainbow I caught below the stocked zone. Pressure has eased up considerably on the lower part; guess post derby mania has abated.

I agree with Van, the Chester has been fishing well all year with the exception of Memorial Day (for me anyway) but that may have been due to the low levels, bright sun and 88 deg temperatures. I am headed out this afternoon and plan to fish the furthest upstream portions of the west branch, which i have not fished yet, so I am curious to see what it produces. Will certainly post if the fishing is promising.
