Chesapeake Bay, Dorchester County, Md., 9/19-21/2013

Fished the Chesapeake with my father and a friend from thursday to saturday. We caught lots of fish over the three days, but we had a hard time finding fish of good size, especially stripers. We caught ****tail and snapper sized blues, a lot of short stripers (the biggest being 21 inches), 2 weakfish, croaker, and spot. I did well with a 1/0 brightly colored jiggy fly on a fast sinking line, but we also caught a lot of fish jigging spoons, and a few live lining spot. We found numerous schools of big bunker, but there were no gamefish following the schools.

Good report - glad to see some folks hitting the salt. We don't get many salt or Chesapeake Bay reports in this forum. Also good news to see the bunker schools.

Good bluefish pic too BTW. Blues and seatrout often exhibit really neat iridescent colors, esp purple, depending on light angle and probably some other factors

i understand the NJ reports (from grumpys, nick and bettys etc) are saying the same thing - plenty of blues, increasing numbers of small stripers and no funny fish yet.

once i hear that the south jetty is producing big bass regularly i'll start hitting the salt night and mornings and post reports here 2-3 days later...

intend to fish from the hook down to lewes.
