I haven't seen a Steelbow report in a while so, I thought I would keep you guys posted on the conditions. While driving over Elk at 79 I could see 50% ice over. I stopped at upper Walnut for an hour and didn't find any fish. The slower pools had shelf ice that I didn't want to walk on. There is only about 3 inches of snow on the ground. The water was that perfect deep mint green color.
I then fished the lower end of the C&R section of the Chautauqua for the afternoon. There is only about 2 inches of snow there but, I don't know how much is up in the hills. I found zero anchor ice, and predictable shelf ice. The ice was starting break up today and this will only continue with the warmer temps and rain. There are fish there, but you need to do some walking to find them.
