Chartiers Creek ,Upper Saint Clair, 8-12-08

Fished the creek today from 2:30 to 5pm for some warm water species. Caught more fish in 2 hours than 6 guys could catch in 8 hours on the Yough. :-D Water was a little cooler from the cool nights. It was a nice close diversion. Caught a couple smallmouth and what I think are rock bass (pictures with red eyed fish?)??

Flow was actually more than I anticipated but still manageable. Used a beadheaded olive bugger deaddrifted and was successful.

That would--of course--depend on who those six guys were. And, yes, they are rock bass.

What you probably don';t know is they are referring to 6 specific people on one specific float trip a couple weekends ago...I think you committed Ego-cide. They weren't dissing the Yough...for most of them its one of their regular waters...ouch!

I would liken my reaction to that of an over-protective papa, bristling at even the slightest suggestion that his loved one is not all he knows it to be, rather than that of someone afflicted with the over-inflated ego you suggest. I do, however, see that your Ego is doing quite well.

Be that as it may, like my favorite fictional superstar race-car driver, I said what I did with all due respect.

Finally, as someone who depends upon the reputation of the Yough to provide quality fishing days, I felt it necessary to defend the river, no matter how slight the “diss”: the river does, after all, provide me with an income. And though you suggest that your pal's statement was, in fact, not a shot at the river, that is how it came off to someone who isn't one of those six gentlemen you mentioned, or to one who wasn't already aware of their ill-fated trip.

This is public forum, after all.

I saw acristickid's post as a poke in the ribs of the six fishermen he referenced, something he was entitled to offer as one of the six. On the other hand, the reply by YoughGuide seemed a mere forgivable error in judgment. Defending the river should not have required questioning the fishing abilities of 6 people who were completely unknown to him.

That would be fine, except the specific 6 were not referenced. Nothing against acristickid...he has contributed greatly to this forum and has never been hostile to anyone that I've seen..but I certainly didn't catch his statement as an inside joke. I just took it as "the fishin' was easy." I also took YRG's response to be in jest (as I thought Acristickid did as well by his response). I didn't take offense to either person's posts. Interpretation of the little forum snippets can vary greatly.
