I got roped into a trip to Charleston the last weekend of March with the girlfriend. Looking into a half day trip for redfish. Curious how good that time of year is? I don’t have much experience at all with salt water fly fishing so will be looking at the guide service route. Any recommendations of info would be appreciated.

No experience in Charleston - however I have fished for reds in OBX. Been told that early spring is primetime. If I had to guess, Late March is probably a great time to go.

I would call up Hardell's Fin and Feather Shop and ask them. Or 843 flies. Both are awesome shops and I am sure they know the best guides or have their own!

The Charleston Angler closed some years back or I would gladly share their info.

Don't wade, use a boat unless your guide is positive it's safe. I lived in the area for about 4 years. They have a thing called "pluff" mud, its extremely dangerous, worse than quicksand. There's about 5 rescues a year involving that stuff.

Can confirm, pluff mud is no bueno

I would recommend Captain Rob Beglin. He took me and my oldest son out a few years ago during non peak days and we had a blast and he put us on fish all day. Treated my son like a king. Good guy, very knowledgeable, and professional.
