I grew up fishing here some summers. Recently my parents sold the cabin so now my trips are different. I used to run around on the allowable trails from painter run to as far as i could get fishing all the little creeks.
I miss it. Its special to me. My brother an i took two seperate trips here in the same time frame and compared notes. I didnt take many pics, as i had my kids and wife with me but the trip was amazing as usual. I post a few later.
Streams fished:
Painter Run and Deadman
Fourmile Run
Lick Run
Elk Run
Asaph Run & Little Asaph Run
Straight Run
Cedar Run and many of its tribs.
And many more.
All the little streams are flowing nicely by the time i left.
They fished the usual pleasant way they do.
Im scratched, bruised and otherwise sore.
Totally worth it this forest is amazingly beautiful
Brook trout are doing well.
I rigged up with a size 12 Yellow Elk Hair caddis and size 16 adams wet. Never chaged.
Stopped at various large pools and fish up and down of them 50 yards. Quite a few larger brookies in the 8-10 inch range caught.
Nothing away from those holes as big as them.
Cedar Run was its typical clear self.
Took multiple fish here in the short time i fished the main stem.
I focused more on hiking the tribs.
Fish werent picky as long as you made long casts going down stream as usual. Use a 12 foot leader on Cedar it helps.
I didnt fish sulphurs any night. The yellow elk hair worked in its place
A+ on this trip.
Plan on booking a 4 day trip again soon.
We drove the entire forest and we all loved looking for bear etc.... I often see them here.
Took the family down to Tiadaghton. Hiked the multiple falls on Campbells run.
You should take a swim under the one. Its wonderful.
Afterwards we ate apples and my kids and I watched the campers fly fish The Big Pine for stocked fish.
This one 18 or 19 year old gent we watched for a good hour.
He was obviously just learning.
Timing was bad, drifts sloppy etc. By the end of it he was getting noticably better. Then it happened. He caught his first fish. Dude was so excited. Showed off the stubby fin thing like it was gold.
I learned to cast myself on The Pine nearly 32 years ago myself. I saw myself in that guy and smiled. We all clapped and he held it up to us. Good way to end the trip. Really took me back.
I might camp there myself with the kids and fish with them there.
We have it so good in PA. We are truely blessed.
