Cedar Run, Lycoming County 9/1/17

Fish Cedar Run for a couple of hours on Friday. I fished the lower section, and I'm sure this section gets very little pressure due to access issues. I've fished further up stream before but never this far down.

The water was low and clear. The fishing was good which surprised because the water was that low. I caught brooks and browns by sneaking from pool to pool. The stimulator was the fly of the day. I've found that on freestone streams at the end of summer the fish have a hard time passing on that fly.

Cedar and Slate are in my opinion, among the most overrated streams in the state as far as fishing goes. Beauty is a whole other story. Both are beautiful canyons with great scenery.

I tend to agree...but in a complicated way. 🙂

The "runs" are indeed gorgeous but not so much more so than countless other streams in that part of the state. It's just a strange feeling to fish them and to have to usually work so hard to catch fish....it's incongruous. Anyway, it's part of the charm and appeal of these streams. I think of them in a similar vein as Letort and Fishing Creek: I just can't stay away....so I keep going back to get beat up. 🙂

Nice report. Glad to hear Cedar treated you pretty well (as it treated me the last time I was there). Yuh never know. Even low water conditions can fish well if the stars are aligned.

I'll be up camping in worlds end - was planning on givin the sock a try and more than likely will spend my time splorin' some of the small Brookie streams - anyone have any suggestions? I've never been there before but I know pretty much all the feeders hold. (Sorry to hijack)
