Headed to Hockendauqua Ck this afternoon, but found it to be quite low and 70 deg. Fished 45 min and did not see a fish.
I then moved to Catasaqua Ck, which was 66 deg, and fished from 4:20-6:20 PM. The stretch that I fished was not officially known to support wild brown trout, but with the improvements in riparian vegetation density over time the section looked trouty to me except for the substantial silt load in places. Exploration last week with spinning equipment proved that wild browns and a few stocked RT and browns were present. I don’t know where those few stocked fish came from.
Trout were rising at one location when I arrived. I immediately caught an 11 inch wild brown on an ant. I could not tell what the fish were rising to until I passed beneath a spider web with live sz 16 green caddis thrashing about. I switched to an imitation, but only had one take in the next hour, lost that 8 inch fish, and saw no rises as I worked my way upstream. Just before quitting I returned to the original pool and trout were rising again. With confidence in the caddis imitation for that specific pool, I quickly caught wild brown, a stocked brown, and lost one brown trout, all of similar 11-12 in size.
