I figured I'd post a report for any SW guys looking to get out before our project waters get loaded. I know I have been inside tying and outside working too long and too much and needed to fish badly and also wanted to try this place out.
I arrived to the project waters at about 10 and looked for parking, the river had guys at what looked like the usual spots. I started closer to the cabins but quickly went down where there was more flow. Water was a measured 42F and was pretty clear. There were ice shelves in the morning but they disappeared quickly.
There was a little midge activity and some caddis but that's not 100% verified as I couldn't catch one. A guy in the lot said he saw little black stones too. I saw one riser all day and whatever he took he smashed it.
I covered most of the project water and did best in deeper runs where the sun was shining but I did kick a couple fish out of the cutbank and bank skinny water area. I got a dozen or so rainbows and one really nice holdover brown. They were all on junk flies, it's not my fault blame stockers for loving the mop lol. It was a nice day on a stream I've never fished and I'll probably be back at some point or another.
