Looking at the fishing gear I have to think most of his gear has already been picked over by family and friends. Still some neat stuff there, those fly boxes would be neat to have.

I did read that somewhere. I also read somewhere that he auctioned stuff off while he alive to raise money for something.

Some nice looking fly fishing gear there, Bam. A lot of it looks barely, if ever, used. What catches my eye most of all though is that sapphire and diamond bracelet.

I’m not intending this to be political, but my wife’s uncle was a Georgia politician, who lived in Montezuma, GA, about 30 miles from Plains and the Carter’s, and he served in the Georgia senate at the same time as Jimmy Carter. Hugh Carter, Jimmy’s first cousin, later replaced my wife’s uncle in that state senate seat.

Some nice looking fly fishing gear there, Bam. A lot of it looks barely, if ever, used. What catches my eye most of all though is that sapphire and diamond bracelet...

What caught my eye the most is the Bill Oyster rod. I remember when it was made and featured in a few magazines.

The engraving, especially the Presidential Seal on the butt cap is extraordinary and the ferrules are reminiscent of some later first class engraving that was available on hardware on some Leonard Hunt series rods I lusted for back in the 1980's...

MUCH, MUCH nicer than the less than elegant engraving offered on some limited edition Orvis bamboo rods in the early 2000's. It also features President Carter's signature on one of the flats which is a lot cooler than just having you name inscribed on the rod in the maker's hand.

And yes, President Carter had some or at least one Leonard liberated from his collection when he moved from the White House. As a Leonard fan (and NOT because of politics), I wrote him a letter about fishing and the loss of that rod.

His reply hangs on a wall in my "fishing room."

Some incredible items! I am just wondering why some of those items aren't going to the Carter Library or the Museum of American Fly Fishing.
