Buffalo Creek, Armstrong Co, 6-18-16

I fished the DHALO section from 640am to 920am. The water was slightly off color and 64 degrees. I tied on a streamer and methodically worked downstream through all holes, pockets and riffles trying to determine where the fish were located. In just under 2 hours, I landed one rainbow on 13 strikes with all takes coming from 3 holes. Holes where the water was 3 feet or deeper (in other words, water too deep for a blue heron to stand in). I see a blue heron everytime I fish here.

I spent my final hour re-fishing the 2 most productive holes with dries, wets and streamers (in that order). I had seen increasing numbers of really small caddis and isonychia duns so I thought some fish might be looking upwards. Nothing showed an interest to either my dries or wets so I switched back to a streamer and caught another rainbow on 5 strikes.

I am amazed at the amount of stream improvements in this section. Over the years a lot of folks clearly put some significant time in, but the water is still pretty skinny this time of year.

I was looking today and its flowing at like 13 CFS, barely above the historical low. Need rain badly..

Probably the only hole any fish are left in is the swimming hole with those huge boulders, around the bend before the train tracks cross over, if walking downstream from Nicola bridge road.

They've definitely worked their butt off to put stream improvements in, but its a poster child for a stocked stream. Love fishing their in March and April since it's close to home but fish don't have much a chance to hold over once you get to July.
