Since it has been weeks since I last went fishing I escaped yesterday to a couple of brookie streams in Westmoreland
and Somerset counties. Larger streams in the area were blown out from nearly 2 inches of rain on Tuesday, but the small brookie streams were perfect: full of clear, cool water and hungry fish. Air temp around 60. Water temp low 50s. Saw a few caddis, BWOs and a small rust colored spinner with no tail. (I have no idea what that was.) Caught many, many native trout. Caught a surprise 16" brownie two miles from the nearest stocked stream. And even a small wild rainbow. Caught all on top using para Adams, CDC caddis and grasshopper. Scenery was amazing, the solitude appreciated. A perfect day.
