Second cloudless day in the NW corner. Air temps rose to 78 degrees.
I fished from 230 to 545pm. I checked water temp twice : 58 then 59 degrees. Water had a green look to it. Flow was good. Stream appeared lower this year than in past years. I fished downstream from town of Spring Creek.
Grannoms were laying eggs in decent numbers but no rises. No other insects present. Despite decent water temperature, I could only muster one strike while fishing streamers or swinging wets. I ended up with 3 split shot and running the fly to the fish’s nose. The takes were subtle, but once hooked they were very lively. Although only 1 jumped. I ended up with 12 rainbows and a brown. I caught fish on a variety of flies caddis pupa, caddis larva, prince, and a few different small wooly buggers. The 2 bait fisherman I talked to were catching more browns than rainbows.
If you go to Brokenstraw just remember that wading can be difficult for some with the abundant round rocks that are extra slick. You just need to wade half as fast as usual.
