Met a friend at Dunkelbergers in Stroudsburg (Sat.); it was about 11:45 before we got to the Brodhead, geared up and got fishing. Water was clear and charging; above average and in a dry year. Sunny skies and a stiff breeze added to the challenge. Water Temp was 64 and the bug activity was sporadic, mostly caddis and midges with some Slate Drakes. No real risers til we had taken off our gear and five min. before the Northernmost park closed. (8pm) Anyway lots of fish coming up below the 447/191 bridge. Had I been by myself I would have gone after them but my buddy was beat. We had fished a couple different locations with fair success; he got five and I landed many. Nice healthy fish and good sized with a few at 14" and several about 13". I did well drifting, swinging, short lining, and a few other nameless techniques, but fishing wet with an indicator and two flies. Caddis pupa and ant combo was working as usual.
This morning we drove up to Ressica. The water was really pushy and the cool night dropped the water temp to 60 though it went back up to 64 by afternoon. Lots of midges and a few caddis, sporadic risers in the one large pool we fished though not enough to make me change out a system that was already effective. Caught a few swinging at the end of the drift and one gift fish which hooked itself while I was coaching my bud. I picked up another eight or so in the crazy fast stuff. At least three fish evaded capture by diving under rocks which makes me chuckle now, but not so much when I was on an 0-6 slump. We left early afternoon after a tailgate lunch. Stopped at a new location on the Brodhead which looked pretty plain but we each picked up a couple more. It was great trip and the first time I go to fish two days in a row all season. Capped off by stopping for a large and lazy Black Bear in the middle of Marshall's Creek Rd. I fumbled for my camera but was too slow even though the bear wasn't hurrying. Distance was around twenty feet; pretty cool!
