This evening I took my friend fishing for big browns. As it was my birthday I was hoping to land some big ones to celebrate the occasion, but it quickly became apparent that the fish had other plans. We fished hard for two hours up until dark with no fish over 16 inches landed, and I honestly thought the day was done.
By the time we were walking back to the car it was completely dark. We were half-heartedly casting at some of the good pools on the walk back, not expecting much, when we came to the last pool before the spot we usually quit fishing at. I heard him shout and I turned around to see his rod doubled over. We quickly got this tank into the net and taped it out at 19 inches, which was his pb by a lot and his first ever truly large wild brown.

I’ve tried to put him on some big fish multiple times but it had never worked out until today. I went in to the day hoping I would be the one to land a trophy but seeing him catch a fish like that was arguably even better. He might be addicted to chasing big browns now lol

Nice lookin hen like the sparse spots..did you happen to get a water temp?
I did not. I would guess somewhere in the upper 40s. This section of water is partially spring influenced so it usually runs a tiny bit warmer than other waters in the fall/winter and cooler in the summer
