Big Springs Cumberland Co. 10-11-11

Jules and I fished from around 10:30 till 3:00. Water was in good shape as usual, first time I've been there since the work was done. We both caught a bunch of small RB's, Jules had one very nice one that got away, with a big leap out of the water.

I caught fish with the orange ant, crowe beetle and a tan caddies, Jules was fishing mostly nymphs, not sure with patterns.

It was good to be fishing again!

Finally was able to give Big Spring a try today for the first time. Certainly not an easy stream for beginners like myself, but despite a cool rain and not a single fish landed, I had a great time. There is something really nice about being able to clearly see the fish you are casting to...can be frustrating as hell when you don't catch anything, but still a nice way to fish.

What type of nymphs/streamers/wet flies have you had success with on this stream? I'm trying to improve my subsurface fishing...

It's a great little stream and I'm happy to have had success on it. Here's my observations... I didn't find the trout to be spooky to the sight of me(for the most part). I have targeted fish that I know have seen me and caught them. I have casted to a lot that have seen me and haven't seen me and when they study my offering have run away in terror. The trout are more selective than Falling Spring trout and I think FSB is tougher!!! As far as flies, san juan worm is a winner, scuds, caddis dry, and twice last week I picked a fight with a huge bow with a sculpin. One hell of a fight but I'm 0 and 2. Oh well, I'm moving them anyhow.
