Big spring, Cumberland County, 5/28/2026

Fished 6 am to 11 am. 48 deg. at the start but warmed a bit with the sun. Water level stable, 52.8 deg. Fished the lower FFO section. No real bugs coming off so drifted a cress bug and a thread midge as a dropper. Totaled about 8 fish, evenly on the cress bug and midge larva. Had one nice one, 12-14 inches, but lost him close to the net. Otherwise a nice day. Caught the smallest grand slam ever. Nice to see all 3 sharing the stream.

Looks like a great day. Brown trout are definitely increasing in number in the upper reaches. A friend of mine caught one just below the ditch last year and I routinely get them in or just below the fly only, and not all small either. Will be interesting to see what happens with that
