Enjoyed a nice day fishing Big Spring, good weather, and lots of anglers. The wind made for some difficult casting in the morning so more exploring than fishing. Still seeing visible redds, one that had a half dozen Brookies on it, they actively swirled around on it every few minutes reminding me of a bait ball in the ocean. By the afternoon the wind slowed down and I finally started getting into some fish on my fur nymphs. Picked up 3 nice bows. Stopped and fished the Ditch for an hour and picked up an additional 3 Brookies all on nymphs. It surprises me every winter the visible population of Brookies here, while the majority of the rainbows seem to just disappear until spring. Was nice to get out for the day after just getting over the flu.

I've actually taken to chucking large streamers with an 8 weight rod spooled with 9wt rocket taper for big spring. After all these years fishing it, I find it to be highly effective and wind is never a factor

nice report I fished big spring for the first time yesterday. Thats a real pretty creek, and hard too fish for sure.
left humbled by those tough fish.

Thanks Beorn, I agree they are some tough fish and that's what drives me to go back, its easy catchin some freestoner Brookies but catchin some BS Brookies will test ya.
Rocketing streamers is an effective technique, I think putting some distance between you and the fish is key to bringing out the big wary ones.
