I hit Big Springs again today from 1:30-4pm. I bypassed the Ditch as there were four other anglers there, in favor of the lower project water. There was one angler down there near the last parking area so I opted for the first parking area below the Ditch. Water was low and clear. To boot, there was a nagging breeze that kept blowing my flies away from the intended target. In one particular stretch of water where I have had quite a bit of success lately, there were rainbows rising to what looked like early black stoneflies (???) There were quite a few of them coming off in the riffled areas and the fish were really making a commotion. Splashy rises and lots of gulps...I tied on the closest thing I had to a match and wound up with two rainbows

Im glad your back on the board. Please keep the reports coming. I like your detail and the fact you dont mind talking about the locations in an intimate way. People need to learn that giving up a spot in a stream like Big Spring is NOT a bad thing.

I too have fallen in love with Big Spring. Its in my top 5 favorite streams in PA. I will say though, in your report you said :

I saw a rainbow today that was easily 20"+ that came out of a spot that I didn't think held enough water for a fish so large.

As you may know by now or already do, that water is deceiving about its depth. Ive seen water that looked about 3 inches deep but it was around a foot or more. Such clear water always has that effect.

Thanks again for those pms and advice about those other locations. You and I my friend share a passion for Limestone Spring Creeks and wild brook trout. We are going to have to get together one day and fish bud!

Another great day on BSC. I'd wager that you saw little black stoneflies. They were thick on BSC last week and fish were hitting them hard enough to launch themselves out of the water.
