Big Spring Creek, Cumberland County

Dear Board,

I met up with a friend I hadn't seen for quite a while and spent several long and relatively fruitless hours on Big Spring Creek.

I managed 2 LDR's and said friend caught one on a midge that I witnessed and perhaps more after I left?

Still, it was a nice day to get out and fish with a "bud" from the board eventhough he talks sort of funny, like he is from Ohio or something! :-D

Tim, that's such a coincidence because I met up with a friend on Big Spring yesterday too. He talked a bit funny as I recall, but I don't think he was from Ohio-- looked like a lumberjack, come to think of it.

Anyhow, I only caught one, but there was a light hatch of tiny whitish-silver midges that kept bringing up trout in the ditch. I kept at it the whole time with the one imitation I had that was close. I had a couple other takes that I was asleep for and a few inspections. The one I got was a deep blue brook trout, maybe 7 inches if I stretched it. I don't think the air temp ever got far about 40, it was overcast most of the time we fished from about 130-700p. The water seemed low overall.

Did the "friend" happen to be throwing a tandem rig consisting of a green weenie and a hot pink san juan worm whilst smoking? Last time I saw him he was seriously contemplating the use of a bobber as well.

Dear Bruno,

Nah, I was the one throwing the junk flies. Said friend remained pure to his elitist dry fly fishing ways, though he did smoke like a chimney. :-D

I probably should have tried a midge too, but I can't see to tie on a fly smaller than a size 12.

I've seen small magnifying glasses that attach straight onto your rod to maybe help fix that problem Tim...
