Time Fished: 4pm - 515pm
Weather Conditions: 75 degrees and overcast
Water Conditions: Fast flow, fairly good visibility
Insects: about as many different insects as you’ll see at one time. Small Stoneflies. 2 types of Caddis, green drakes, light cahills, other mayflies, 3 different spinners.
I never fished this stretch before and I didn’t have much time to learn it because the forecast was for Thunderstorms at 6pm. There were insects everywhere but the water was fast and I did not see a rise until just before the first wave of rain arrived. The rises came from a deeper hole with heavy brush and slower flow so the fish can see the fly.
Prior to seeing the rises I noticed lots of green drake hatching so I put on a golden stonefly (my closest match to a green drake in my small stream box). I caught a plump brookie on it then switched that out for a dry and caught a really nice brookie.
With all of the insects in this stream it is easy to see why the trout gain weight quickly.
I have many insect pictures to post but I wont been able to for a while
