Big Hunting Creek, MD 2021-02-15

With today off for President's Day, I decided to check out Big Hunting Creek for my first outing of 2021. In search of the little black stonefly hatch. They were on and doing there thing, crawling around on the snow covered rocks.

Weather: light drizzle
Air temp 36*
Water temp 39/39*
#18 black stone fly nymph with peacock herl shell seemed to do the trick.

Fished the pocket water, didn't have much luck in the flat water near the Visitor Ctr.

Good for you! Winter fishing is a challenge, and catching fish always warms you up. I need to change my plans for today....

Love me some Troegs Nugget Nectar. My favorite is Mad Elf with NN coming in 2nd place. I usually stock up on the Elf and take two with- one for the streamside lunch, and one to cap off the day. If you haven't already, try some Backwoods Bastard Bourbon Barrel Ale (Founders), Dragon's Milk (New Holland), or Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale(Lexington Brewing). All three pair quite nicely with a roast beef/corned beef/smoked turkey sandwich. Nice wild brown from BHC- love the red spots!

I was down there hiking a few days ago but didn't break out the fly rod.
