Big Fishing Creek, Columbia county, 6/2/14

Seen several reports here about insect activity but no rising fish. I spend a lot of time on the Yellow Breeches fishing and watching but have seen very few risers this year. Not my pay grade to know why. Anybody have any thoughts. Has it been the high water, colder spring?

Been fishing from Orangeville to the Light Street Bridge. Plenty of hatches, but very little rising. Met a person who took the water temp and it was 58 degrees and they will not jump until in hits 60. Probably need a few more days of sun to warm up the water
There were plenty of risers Saturday evening at dusk. Me and my buddy fished between orangeville and forks and he easily landed 20 plus and I got 3 (newbie) with many misses. Used a march brown til about 8 then switched to sulfurs. My buddy said there were coffins? On the water as well. I've been out w fly rod about a half dozen times and that was easily best night I've seen. Not being able to see my leader I had to go by the rise according to where line was and hope for best on hookset. Seems like everything good has been happening about that time of evening but by far most risers I've seen so far.

Maybe it warmed up and they are now rising. I was not able to get out over the weekend. I thought the area north of the bridge at Orangeville all the way up was posted.

No, north of Orangeville has plenty of park 'n fishes. I would say that the Camp Lavigne entry is the northern limit of the stream.
Fished Camp Lavigne last night, only to get out of my car and realize I must've dropped my fly box on the Loyalsock. ($#%@!)
Plenty of fish at Lavigne, occasionally rising to march browns, of which mine were laying on the ground 20 miles away. Was forced to throw a dry sulphur to no interest.
Stream temp was 62F.

There are a few sections you can't fish without hassle. The freestoners have waters near where green creek comes in and also near diggers bar. Also from above zehners bridge to the area where raven creek comes in is a club. Above forks where creek bends away from 487 is posted as well as a bit above Stillwater covered bridge is posted but I have fished those areas walking the creek without any hassles yet. There is plenty of open water above orangeville as duck said.

The reason there's been no hassle is because the FCSA allows public access to their properties.

Two years ago I think it was that I drove up to Fishing Creek basically on a whim (I was heading out to the "other" Fishing Creek butva late start prompted me to get off I80 and give the closer one a shot. I'd never been there before at all, couldn't find a soul at the flyshop, so it was just me and Dwight's book Trout Streams of Pennsylvania. I fished all day, breaking for lunch in Benton, and from Orangeville upstream to the Camp I had absolutely no trouble finding enough places to fish that were open to public access. Heck, there were signs encouraging public anglers to stop and fish at spots. Several groups have sure done some great work for public access up there. I thought it was a great stream and an inviting area to visit.
