Big Fishing Creek, Clinton County, 7/2/2021

Posting this because of all the temp talk: Fished BFC yesterday evening and had a good time. The water was 59 in the narrows at 7pm. It was up a bit from the recent storms, but still low. Some little bugs bugs were hatching and the big ones were buzzing around (caddis, big stones, blue quills, BWOs, midges, and yellow sallies) but not in huge numbers. The fish were rising to eat emergers and the rare dun. Also saw a few spinners at dusk, but nothing on the water. Caught a bunch of brookies and one nice brown. Man those fish are spooky.

I imagine the water will drop quickly, but if you're looking for a place to fish this weekend, this is where I'll be.

Great looking trout. That’s a good call to be on BFC. Low water is tough there but new tactics are developed when you are on the stream in tough conditions. It’s a win - win.

Thanks Prospector, you said it - I haven't roll casted that much since last summer. My brother got me a sweet OPST skagit system and I've been messing with single-hand spey casts on the Susky. Some of those casts were actually useful last night with a WF line. I caught that brown on a sloppy single spey cast that somehow resulted in a beautiful drift, under some low trees on the far bank.

Thanks for posting and nice fish. Prospector hit the nail on the head. Fishing creek in low, clear water during the summertime is kind of the nfl of ffing to me.
