I love me some BFC when it’s up and green. Not a cloud in the sky with air temps topping out around 50 and the water was 45 degrees in the late afternoon. BFC was high but totally manageable and a gorgeous green, but not opaque. Maybe 24” of visibility.

I got to the narrows at 11am and was greeted by BWOs. And big ones too, easy 16s. They looked freaking enormous after only seeing midges and little black stones for the past couple months. The BWOs sporadically hatched until about 3 and the fish ate the whole time. Once the BWOs stopped coming off the fishing slowed down, but before that I had lots of action. It was a one fly day for me - I had a #14 olive iron lotus on point and that’s the only fly they ate. Midges hatched all day too and into the evening.

Today was also the first time I really committed to euro nymphing for a day. I know, kinda late to the party. But man does that work. I tied up a couple mono rigs last night and I’m glad I did. I had to recalibrate my trigger because some of the takes were so insanely subtle. But once I did it seemed like fish were everywhere, behind every rock, even at my feet, where I wouldn’t have expected to find them. I shudder to think of the thousands of takes I’ve missed in the past.

Thanks for the report! Making my first trip of the year out there next week.

Hey! He's finally tightlining lol. Glad to hear you had a good day out there. The narrows can really light up sometimes and sound like you had one of those days. Man that stream is a good time.

Wait!

You went to Fishing Creek, there was a hatch with rising fish and you NYMPHED ??

The world certainly has gone crazy.

There were rising fish on Thursday- presumably on LBS and BWOs. The majority of my fish came on nymphs too, but I did switch to dries when I ran into a stretch of about 6-7 risers and picked most of them off (#18 CDC BWO Biot Body Comparadun).

Nice! Yesterday I only saw 4 rises or so out there over the course of 7 hours. Pretty good variety of bugs around too. Nymphs worked at least.
