BIG BUSHKILL, MONROE COUNTY, 6/1/2009

Fished yesterday at Ressica falls. Fished 4 hours in the pocket water below main parking lot. Caught 1 brown, missed 3 more. Not a lot of action--perfect conditions. Talked to 2 other fishermen, they were complaining about the fishing too. There did not seem to be a lot of fish as compared to past years. Also, for a perfect May day, there were only 2 other cars in the parking lot (unusual for this river at this time of the year. Also, I have not seen a single post this year in "stream reports" for this special reg water. In past years, there have always been a fair number of posts for this river. Does anyone know, is there something wrong up there? has anyone else had similar experiences with the Bushkill this year. There have always been loads of fish in this stretch, but not so it seems this year. Maybe its me, but it is very discouraging. I have fished the scout res for almost 40 years, this year just seems bad as compared to past years. Any thoughts?

I was at Resica earlier last month in the same area that you were and it fished well despite the somewhat high water conditions at the time (~240 CFS). I haven’t fished it much in the past so I don’t quite have the logbook up there that you do… but the fish seemed to be well distributed down through there.

I will say this, I was out Sunday on Pocono Creek from first light to 11am and fishing was about as tough as it could get. It started slow the first two hours and just got worse… even the bugs didn’t want to come out and play.

Weather was kind of funky that day… cold over night, clear morning, dark clouds in the afternoon, clear/windy evening, barometer bouncing all over the place…

That’s it, I’m out of excuses. :-D

I was there 2 weeks ago and had a great day. From 11 - 3:00, there was little visible rising, but the fish were on the move. I was unsuccessful nymphing, but as soon as I put a dry on they were aggressively coming to the top. It was the same for my friend. It didn't seem to matter much what fly we used. After 3:00 they were working off & on....and spot fishing was fun, taking fish from challenging lies along the edges (behind rocks, in eddys, and low overhang. We worked down to the piano pool where the usual fish were jumping and clearing the water, but I preferred the scene upstream to that. So...no problem with that stream that I could see...

I agree, we were there the evening of June 4th and it was fishing very well (USGS gaude = 160 CFS)... numerous mayfly species present either hatching sporadically or mating/egg-laying adults.

We took all of our fish on top w/ either Ginger Quill or Rusty Spinner (mostly browns w/ few rainbows mixed in).

It's a raging mess now though... got up to 700 CFS on Friday! :-o
