Big Buffalo Creek, Perry County, 04/26/09

Fished from 1800 ‘till around 2015, water a little high and stained but very fishable. There were a couple spin fishers leaving when I got there that said they had no luck but there the fish were beginning to come up after something. There were rise forms that seamed to suggest midges and plenty of black flies or gnats in the air and in my face, but no takers on the small dark midges. To my surprise they were after Gammons (#14 or 16’s), and boy did the fish want them. I caught over a dozen trout and a bunch of fall fish. The trout were all fresh stocked rainbows, with a couple 14” or better.

That creek was pretty much my home stream growing up as a kid...I used to catch some large red eye from Wila down to the river...who would have thought that the Big Buffalo would be the happening place over the Lil J and Spruce? Go Figure...

Born and bred Perry County...vote no on the stop light...
