I downsized everything to 6x and had to drop it on their nose. Then, I started getting strikes. I’ve always heard 6x is ridiculous but I did get a lot more strikes so idk.

When you switched to 6x did you add it to the end of your 5x? The reason I ask this is because tippet length is usually a much bigger factor than tippet diameter.

Another tip for fishing in low water:
I use terrestrials almost exclusively during summer and fall
And think they work better during low flows than attractor flies
Plus - since terrestrials typically fall into the stream, plopping them on the water can still be effective too

Yea that’s a good point probably a bit more common for them to see an ant drop down on the water like that compared to something else

This too. I don't own anything lighter than 5x. Even 5x can get nicked badly by sticks and rocks when brookie fishing and occasionally I lose flies because of it. So I prefer 4x if I can get away with it, even if the fish are only 5-6". I don't like leaving flies in the bushes or in mouths of fish.

I swapped my leader to 6x too. I think the couple minutes of re-rigging helped settle things down and it was really interesting to me that my very next cast lead to a fish in the net when all my previous drifts with 5x ended in nudges or just flat out them not being interested.
