I fished a short stretch of the Beaverkill near the Junction Hole just to kill some time and to see how many fish are in this stretch. First, I noticed that the Beaverkill runs very fast and that made fishing upstream difficult to get the right drift. It was much easier to fish it downstream since you have so much more control over your drift. I walked up about a third of a mile and fished both directions.
I caught 7 browns and 1 Rainbow. The rainbow must be from the Delaware. system. It was about 5 inches.

Technically speaking we were fishing the Beaverkill but the Willowewoc drove the decision to fish here. We went to the Junction Hole. The Willowemoc was running at a 317 cfs and terribly muddy. The Beaverkill was perfectly clear with a little extra water in it from overnight rain. The combination of the two flows created brown trout heaven and they were eating streamers. The only downside was, many of the trout were in the 6”-7” range and they had trouble attacking the sz 6 streamers. The little guys were all over the large streamers, but hooking up was tough. There were enough bigger fish around to make the solid strikes and put up the good fights. In total I made 7 streamer passes (different streamer each pass) and I caught 40.
While I was waiting for my buddy to catch a few fish that were midging, I put on a March Brown and caught my only fish “not on a streamer” to make it 41.

Insects: midges
It started to rain shortly after I arrived at the Junction Hole. I took advantage that the current was on the north side of the creek. I ran 3 different streamers and caught 11 browns. Some nice fish and some small fish. All browns. After the streamer action slowed, I rigged up to fish midges. Saying that, I chose a sz 18 tan caddis to start with since that seemed to be the most common “small fly) in the area. Over about 25 minutes I caught 3 and lost 5 on the Caddis.
Soon the midging all but stopped. It was hard to tell in the moment but the Beaverkill was rising from an upstream weather event. Later it was clear that the Beaverkill was getting higher.
It was a decent night but it followed a strange script. One stream (Willowemoc) started out high and muddy and then the Willowemoc starts to clears but the Beaverkill gets cloudy. Strange!!! I guess the rain was dumped in different watersheds at different times.

The Beaverkill was running heavy. I saw a couple of nymphers as I went in and when I left. They had a fish on each time I passed them. There were 6 people fishing and at least half of them had fish on.
I was fishing streamers and I caught 6. They were on the small side.

Water Conditions: 61 degrees, Decent color for fishing, the flow was fast
Insects: didn’t really try to identify
I went to the Junction Hole. No one else was there but me and my buddy. There was nothing happening so I decided to run a streamer the whole way through a riffle I hadn’t fished yet this week. I used a dark streamer and received reactions from 44 trout and caught 6 browns. Reactions were grabbing or swirling at the fly (something I could detect). Once completed, I changed to a light colored streamer and started over again.
I got about halfway through the riffle when 2 other fishers arrived. So I went to the area I planned fish during the spinnerfall. I had only caught 1 more trout but had 13 reactions.
The spinnerfall was light. I only had about 12-14 trout where I could work them. I ended up catching 4, missed 4 and failed to impress the other 4-6 trout in the riffle.
Caught 11 browns.

Insects: none
I fished streamers the entire time and only had 6 strikes. Caught 1 brown. Didn’t see another fish caught. One of those days.
We decided to leave for home. It was a good week.
