I'm curious of what color dubbing you use to tie the Barr Emerger? I use a brown/olive dubbing for the body and dun for the thorax. I use dun hackle for the wing case and brown tailing fibers. I got this out of his book, but he fishes out West. I just wonder if they are the correct colors here in PA. Thanks

Brown / Olive dubbing should cover 90%, maybe more, of what is under the water in PA. If you want to get a little more specific I would probably tie some in yellow and some in tan as well.

The Barr Emerger is such a good, simple pattern. I tie all of mine with a brown/olive abdomen and either grey or yellow for the thorax.

Don't overlook tying this pattern as a parachute emerger.
