Fished Sat and Sun, 2,3 June. No luck. The reports during the week had been thick with bluefish and quite a few bass chasing bunker and shad all up and down Island Beach State Park as well as in the inlet. I must have missed it. Hiked over a mile down to the north jetty at IBSP and nobody - and they were mostly bait fishing - were getting anything. A couple fly guys did well on Friday on bluefish. I fished my favorite green over white clouser with fast sink line off the jetty with nary a bump. Water was clear, 55 degrees. By Sunday afternoon the rain started. The Coast Guard was looking for someone, perhaps a surfer, who was lost at sea just off the beach by the north jetty. By the time we hiked back to the car they had the helicopter out as well as boats and apparently still had not found the missing person (sigh).

Have you ever tried fishing back in the flats around the sedge islands? I take my kayak down there all of the time but I have yet to try fishing back through there. The flats run pretty far out and I was reading an article in The Fisherman Magazine. It talked about catching stripers just by wading out there. Usually I fish up at Fisherman's Cove in Brielle but I am definitely thinking about heading on down to IBSP when I return from overseas. If you have any luck down there let me know. Reading the fishing reports help to keep my sanity over here and give me something to look forward to when I get back.

I've got no information, a10... Just wanted to say thanks for your services over there and good luck. Come home safe and we'll save some fish for ya.

I'll second what Jay said and add that you have a free fishing guide whenever you find yourelf in my part of the state. I hope it won't bother you that I fish under a10's all day long. Thanks for your service, our prayers and thought are with you.
