Because of the heat on Thursday I decided to give the trout a rest and explore the area below the dam to see what opportunities the waters had. Liked what I saw downstream of the dam; but didn't have the time to do any serious fishing. Was looking for some advice on what patterns, conditions, any other information that would help make the next trip successful.

Thanks in advance.

p.s. Don't let anyone tell you there aren't trout in this stretch of river. Searching for smallmouth I tossed a little (2 in) walleye rapala along a stretch of current and got slammed hard. Waiting to see a huge smallmouth to break the surface it turned out to be the biggest trout I'd ever hooked. Wasn't able to get him to the bank before he threw the hook but I'm guessing he was close to 22 in. Guess I need to carry a net all the time.
