Took my annual family vacation down to Sunny Isles Beach, FL just outside of North Miami Beach. It's south Florida so it's hot and humid and the ocean temps are like a nice warm bath. Typically got up at first light to get on the beach before the sunbathers and worked the area around the Sunny Isles/Newport Fishing Pier. Tons of bait hanging around specifically Pilchards. Casted a small white clouser and Charlie type patterns in the wash with decent hook up success. Brought two nice snook in the 22-28" range onto the beach. Broke several others off on 12 and 16lb tippets. Had better success with a 20lb bite guard for abrasion resistance. The highlight of the trip had to be the Crevalle Jack blitzs at first light on the pods of pilchards on the beach. I could have tackled them if I wanted too. Anyone who has ever caught a crevalle can tell you they are one of the hardest fighting fish in the ocean and will run you up and down the beach. At one point I had the drag on my Allen Kraken completely locked down with a 20lb leader and the fish were still pulling drag out. All in all a good successful trip and I don't think I came home with Zika :-D
