I’ve been going out to Colorado the last few years fishing in the fall. But I heard they didn’t get the snowfall this past winter so there isn’t much water.Just wondering if maybe someone on here has been out that way and had eyes on the fishing situation.

Montana experienced another low water year, but not as low as last year. Fishing was satisfactory to good. In fact, when I was there during July, some waterways were still too high/fast for good fishing due to wet late spring and early summer weather.

Colorado got the worst of it by far. "The west" is a huge place. Colorado, for all practical purposes may as well be as far from MT or ID as we are. The conditions across the west, while generally dry, still vary drastically.

Dear OldFishStick,

Where are you thinking of going in Colorado? I can ask my brother who's been a CO resident for 40 plus years about conditions in general but if you have a specific place, it might be easier to get solid information. I do know it's been a much drier year than normal but recent rains have helped out a bit.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

I travel to Colorado almost every summer to fish for a few days. Typically, I visit in late July. This year I went out the last week of June due to low water. The water was low but the streams were fishable. The streams are still going to be low but you won't have to deal with elevated water temps and hopefully not as much wildfire smoke.

You may already know this but Fairplay puts you in reach of the South Platte ( I like Elevenmile Canyon), the Arkansas, and if you want to drive and the pass is still open the Taylor River. The Taylor is my favorite. It is where I stay when i go out there.

I was there in early August (Dillon and Granby area). I'm primarily a small stream fisherman so it wasn't too bad by my eye. The larger waters looked to be getting very low at that point, and I don't think things have gotten much better. Increased water restrictions are in effect for people who have a house in the Dillon area. This winter should be better for snow.
