Time Fished: 2pm - 245pm & 7pm - 745pm
Weather Conditions: 75 and sunny then later 59 and raining
Water Conditions: 53 degrees; very fast, high and off color; a few feet of visibility; the Port Allegheny gauge had 650 cfs
Insects: a Caddis and a mayfly; later sulphurs and yellow sallies
I fished at the Coudersport athletic complex (north of town). Some call it CAR Park others say CARP. The water was roaring and I got there at the same time as a guy with a broken foot and he had no intention of wading. So he fished near the parking lot along the stream improvements. I started where the creek broke away from the lawn and worked all of the way down to the parking garage. Neither of us had a strike. I left for another stream hoping for better conditions.
I returned to the Allegheny during a lull in the evening rain but this time I was fishing behind the Westgate Inn. The water was muddier than it had been earlier and it was running faster although there was visibility along shore. I never had a strike but I did see a number of sulphurs hatching in the terrible conditions. Also looked like a some yellow sallies coming off the shoreline. If conditions were better the dry fly action would have been pretty good. Eventually a hard rain with high winds drove me off the stream. I got shutout on the Allegheny...no fish and no strikes.
