PA seeks candidates for Fish and Boat Commission seats in Districts 3, 6, and an at-large boating role by December 5.
HARRISBURG, PA — The Governor’s Advisory Council for Hunting, Fishing and Conservation is actively seeking qualified applicants to serve on the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC), offering a unique opportunity to shape outdoor recreation policy across the state.
Openings are available in two geographic districts and one at-large position focused on boating and water safety.
The positions include District 3 (Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Jefferson, McKean, and Potter counties), District 6 (Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties), and an at-large post tailored to individuals with expertise in boating education and water safety. The latter requires applicants to be registered boat owners who reflect the boating interests from diverse Pennsylvania regions.
Appointments are governed by Title 30 of the Pennsylvania Code. Commissioners serve four-year terms, with the possibility of reappointment for two more terms. In the event of a vacancy, outgoing members may continue serving for six months or until a replacement is confirmed.
“With more than 1 million hunters and anglers and nearly 5 million acres of public lands, it is easy to see why hunting and fishing continue to be among the most popular segments of Pennsylvania’s $19 billion-dollar outdoor recreation economy,” said Derek Eberly, Director of the Advisory Council. “The Shapiro Administration seeks a diverse group of applicants. We encourage interested individuals to apply and support conservation efforts statewide.”
Applicants for district-specific roles must live in the designated region and be knowledgeable in conservation, fish and wildlife matters, and recreational boating. The positions are unpaid, though travel costs are reimbursed.
Nominees will undergo interviews that highlight their professional and volunteer experience in conservation, hunting, and fishing. Successful candidates are appointed by Governor Josh Shapiro with confirmation from the Pennsylvania Senate.
