A Very Cold Little Lehigh 02-06-07

Fished the FFO section of the Little Lehigh for a couple hours in the evening. Saw a few fish rise and hooked up with a nice 11" bow, and missed another nice bow. Fished with a BH wooly bugger. REALLY COLD!!!! I guess thats why no one else was fishing...haha. My thermometer's battery died but the guy from the LLFS said it was around 36 degrees. I know its cold but im leaving for the wonderful desert in iraq so i better try and get my fishing in now that way i have some cold memories to think of when i am over there sweating my @$$ off. i am leaving sometime in may. hopefully i get get some good fly fishing in back here before i head over there. im a philly firefighter so i work 4 days on 4 days off, anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for quick 3 or 4 day trips either by car or even possibly a short plane ride, that wont take long to throw together(last minute type of stuff)??

i think i am going to look into the fishing opportunities over there, it would make the time go by much quicker. if anything i should be pretty good at tying flies by the time i get back. thanks for the kind wishes.

A pretty cheap quick trip would be to central PA. You could hit up the newly accessible Little J, Penns, Spring and Fishing. All are within about an hour of each other and all provide excellent fishing. There are plenty of campgrounds in the area if you wanted to go that route or the many hotels near State College.

A 3 or 4 day trip in PA from where you are you could fish just about anywhere in NE or NC PA and be there in 3 to 4 hours. Trouble is right now everythings iced up it's been so cold, so you may have to wait until a thaw to go there and then wait for the open season if you plan on fishing stocked streams. As for wild trout there's plenty of streams in these regions to chek out, you couldn't fish them all in a lifetime. Good luck in Bagdad, and return safely and thanks for serving.

LouM, right now i am stationed at 11s on the B. I just put in two tickets, one for 25s, 55s, 2s and the other for 27s, L10, 7s.

Thanks again for all of your support guys. Knowing the people back home are behind us really helps out over there.
