Was showing my house today so I had to stay clear. Ended up leaving late because of last minute vacuuming.

Got up to the release of the dam around 9.30....which is way later than I would have wanted, but what are you gonna do. I saw one other fisherman, but he bailed shortly.


There were random sulfurs /cahills popping off . About a size 14 to 16.

Took 3 small fish in sight of the dam.... on top with cdc sulfer emergers.

Started seeing either dark bwo, or quill gordons. #see pic#

Moved down stream steadily till 1pm . Took only one more fish with a size 18 parachute adams. Pretty brown.

It got too hot for me and I boogied home. Great day on the Poho. Cold water....pretty fish.

It depends on what you mean by "BWO". The term applies to several different unrelated species. If by "BWO", you mean Baetis, it isn't (it has three tails and a rear wing that's too large.)

It could very well be a "Large BWO": Drunella cornuta. They're a morning hatch and this is the right time of year for them. My guess is that it is, but it's been 20 years since I've seen one and my memory isn't that good. (They're not uncommon, they're just not in the rivers I fish -- and I seldom fish mornings.)

This is why I hate the term "BWO".

Definitely not a Quill Gordon. Not only have they been over for a couple of months, they only have two tails.
