Thanks. I located it before you responded, but it took a lot of what should have been unnecessary effort. I went to the web site and used the search engine to enter “wild trout streams list.” It clearly was not the ideal way to find it. It took me to some Commission actions to approve wild trout streams and a list of “streams to be considered” as wild trout streams, meaning that future surveys would determine whether or not they were wild trout streams. I agree that the round about route of saying “streams that support natural reproduction of trout” was the cleaner way to do it, and I should have used that language given my background, but it is not the way that most people would phrase their search. That’s largely PFBC in-house language, but I think it would be a bit esoteric to the average angler, who would probably just say wild trout streams when searching.

I think they used to have the wild trout list on the PFBC website, but it looks it's now stored at some general PA government website. There may be good reasons to do that. But they should have something on the PFBC that explains what the list is then have a link to it.
 
All the new state websites are disappointing in what information is publically available and how its organized. All in the name of improved accessibilty.

If you google or search trout water classifications yhe page with the trout streams map, wild trout list, class a streams and to be considered list still exists. Good luck finding it otherwise.

Lol pfbc. As any other state run agency...lets see how difficultcwe can make things for the average person lol lol lol
 
The shared website format has made all state websites total crap. I dislike every PA state government website these days. It's harder to find anything and everything these days.

I really think they do this on purpose...all state agencys in pa..they want you to navigate for more time on these broken web sites...they are constantly changing the format and looking for ways confuse us even more... its a way to justify the employment of all these computer nerds who have to pay off all these high price college loans ...so they make them change things up constantly to justify their employment to hold that position at that agency...now we have 1000 grads who can build on computers home and building designs but no one to build them lol

Dear lycoflyfisher,

Yes, the new websites certainly are less user friendly. I miss the old days! I just love when "improvements" lessen the usability of the things. Soon there will be 2 factor ID needed to do anything online.

A good website, like a good message board, takes human time to manage and update. This board, and admins please correct me if I’m wrong, I’m guessing takes a few hours a week per person running the show.

A state website takes a crazy amount of time to keep current. And the more details, the more effort.

I loved rooting around on the old fish and boats website, but as time passed, biologists reports were not being added, links failed as changes in one spot affected other spots, and so on.

I’m in the midst of an intranet project at work and the directive is to stand up something that’s useful on a daily basis to staff, and that can be updated by a leadership group but is carefully monitored and that doesn’t take much effort.

It reminds me of the sign at my mechanic that says you you can have maybe two of these three things: fast, inexpensive and high quality.

Or, as a friend of mine once said, the American way is to demand perfection and refuse to pay for it.
 
I believe the website changes are due to a federal mandate for ADA, FWIW. Many files were forced to be updated or go into the ether due to this. At my last job before moving back east, tons of old documents got the axe for the reason that the new rules forced everyone to look at what was actually on the site and remove old, non-conforming or redundant files. Indubitably, PAFBC did the same thing.
