The Annual Paflyfish Spring Jamboree is set for May 19-21, 2023

Friday, May 19 is the start of our meetup for the Paflyfish Spring Jamboree Weekend at the Seven Mountains Campground. This is our annual get-together for members of the site to fly fish, tie flies, camp, and share a few stories. We have a lot of fun fishing over some of Pennsylvania's finest streams including the Little J, Penns Creek, Spring Creek, Fishing Creek, and plenty more in the region.

The pavilion at Seven Mountains Campground is rented by Paflyfish and is used as a meeting point during the weekend. Plenty of impromptu conversations, fly-tying, and meet-ups occur at the pavilion.

The weekend is a casual event with fly fishing in a great region of Pennsylvania. As with every year, we will be meeting up in the evenings at the pavilion to catch up on the day's fishing trips. Friday and Saturday mornings we meet for coffee and plan the day. Often plenty of opportunities for some fly tying and casting lessons are shared.

At this time, we will not be going to plan any special speakers or activities. That could change, but there is always plenty of impromptu fly tying, casting lessons, and support on where to fish. So if you are unsure about the area, do not worry there are plenty of members from the site that can help get you started.

One of these years I will make it! probably won't be this year though as we decided to start over with kids and my wife is due end of April. Wonder if we can get Gfen to roll through as well.

Congrats Shane!

Yeah, man, sounds like you have your priorities straight. There'll be time. And maybe, if you're, lucky. They'll go too.

I have two, a 13yr old and a 15yr old. Youngest is out with me as much as I allow him. Oldest likes to do it once in awhile. Brought up how it is supposed to rain for youth day and chilly. Thought it might deter them. Instead they requested we float in my drift boat down the Lehigh. I declined knowing that they are stuck on the boat if it gets too bad out for them.

Also, Thanks Turkey!

This jam is set up for heavy green drakes, so just tune up accordingly.
There are more bugs coming too! My reservation is in the air but if I take my wife for a nice seafood dinner tonight I may have a chance...

PS: you don’t mind if I post the link to short vid from some years ago

What rod set ups should I bring? Given the local fishing areas? I'm planning on bringing at least these two:

- 4wt 8'6" rod for dry fly
- 3wt 10'6" euro nymphing rod

Are there some brookie streams nearby? Should I back a 2/3 wt for rods as well?

Yes, bring a brookie rod. If the rains come and the "big water" is blown out, brookie streams are typically the backup plan. As far as what rods to bring, it really depends on the water you're going to be fishing and how you'll be fishing it. The 10'6" 3WT will work well on Spring, Penns, Big Fishing Creek, Little J, etc. Similarly, I'd recommend a 9'(ish) 5WT for tossing dries on the same waterways. A smaller rod 7'6" to 8'(ish) would work well on tighter creeks such as Tea and others. As mentioned above, bring a selection of rods, which will ensure you have several options.

And low and clear water combined with bluebird skies will also lead to the brookie stream backup plan during the heat of the day.

So, there is water of every shape, size, and alkalinity, lol, in the area. And you let conditions determine where you go. Be ready for everything.

Just put in my reservation. For those still considering, the campground only has a few primitive cabins remaining.
So glad you’re going!!!

BTW, anyone stuck for a reservation;
7 mountains now has a sister campground, about 10 minutes away

Man, this sounds fun as he!!. I'll have to plan for this one year. Start planning early so I can get a reservation. It's only about an hour and a half from my camp near Brookville. It's on my bucket list for sure!

Two more guys just booked. Looking forwards to our first jam and meeting some folks. Is it worth bringing my vise and some tying materials?

That's totally up to you. Some guys bring a vise and tie, others don't. It's a weekend (or longer) of everything fly fishing and some things not fly fishing. The beauty of the Jam is that you can make it what you want. With so many streams to fish in the region, where you choose to fish is totally up to you. Some guys have been known to come up and not fish all weekend! :D

That may be me. I just need to practice my casting without picking up anymore bad habits. That and learning more about rigging.

Though I probably will fish. Maybe.

There always seems to be folks casting on the lawn at the campground, usually just trying out others rods and such, but it's always a good chance to get some tips and help, it's a good bunch of very talented folks, and very willing to share knowledge. Don't be shy to ask for advice.
And definitely plan on hitting the streams, so much good water within a half hour or so drive, from tiny brookie streams to the famous ones like Penns, Spring, and Fishing creeks. Dont feel intimidated, After all, it's just fishin, and they are just trout in a crick!
