Your Fish of the Year

Lots of great fish and fishing in 2021. Best fish pic is from a awesome sail trip in the BVI. But best fish was on Sandy Creek of Lake Ontario.

It's not every year you land one of these, so this is definitely it for me:

Not a chart-busting fish, but likely the "fish of the stream". For that reason, this fish is my most memorable of the year. I generally don't catch large fish (>20") due to the waters I fish, so I have to utilize other criteria to separate the more memorable ones from the others. This guy came from a small red sandstone freestoner.

wg - I fished that hole in the late fall when the water was higher and only saw a couple of smaller fish there. I never would have guessed there was one that big there! I went there today to see what the stream looks like now and thought maybe I might have a chance to wet a line. Nope. The ice formations were absolutely incredible! Here is a photo of that hole and a couple of the ice.

Sorry I neglected to post my fish of the year. I didn’t catch many quality fish last year but this one is mine for the year for the same reason as wgmiller. I don’t have a picture but it was a 10” wild brown from the stream section Swattie mentioned above. I knew that was one of the best places on the stream for a fish to hold but never had any luck finding one.

Darn freestoners! ☺️ I'm sure he's tucked in there with his metabolism shifted to "low gear" for the next month or two. Spring can't come soon enough!

I'm going to try again posting my fish of the year, as it doesn't show in my original post.
