I hooked a fish in the eye socket today, not the actual eye though. The fish went nuts and jumped 5 times. By the time I brought it to hand the hook was in there pretty deep. I decided to take the hook out as carefully as I could. Didn't see any blood, couldnt tell if the eye was damaged.

I know that when a fish is hooked really badly in the throat its best to just cut the line as close to the hook as possible and that the hook will eventually dissolve. But what should you do with a fish hooked in/around the eye?

Same thing. Just cut the line as close as you can. The hook is made to degrade quickly and fall out.

Or you can take the fish home for dinner. It doesn't have much of a chance, although I have caught fish with one eye.

Just another reminder to de-barb your hooks.
