What Are You Tying Today?

Pat's on a #14 streamer hook. The dumb fly that got me to accept nymphing was a necessary part of the game. Having some luck changing things up and fishing as a single nymph under a bobber while there's no water.

Interesting. I tend to use a Pat's Rubber Legs only when the water is high or if it's slightly off-color. Admittedly, I've never tied it as small as a #14. Might be worth a try.

We were camping on the Battenkill this weekend and my kid ran over yelling, "Dad! I need your phone. There's cool shells of bugs all over the rocks!"

Don't need to tell me twice.

I imagine the real benefit of a Pat's in these conditions is simply that it gets down fast when fish are in short, deep buckets, though.

This is a new version of the fly I call the Yough Mother Bugger.

This has five types of feathers: pheasant tail, cape, marabou, partridge, and saddle hackle. It’s also got a very small amount of possum dub at the collar.

I wanted a different profile for this fly that’s equipped with a “get it right down” tungsten bead. This should move a fair bit more water than the standard version.
