I USED to use tan versions, but now I use all yellow with a dun wing and sometimes pure white flies (when it is totally dark) everywhere I fish the hatch regularly which includes the Lehigh Valley, Poconos and Cumberland Valley.

I could probably count the number of orange colored naturals I've seen in my entire life on one hand so I never bothered to tie an orange imitation.

FLY-RITE # 23 is my go-to Sulphur color. I have seen a few orange ones, but they definitely are scarce.

Regards,

Tim Murphy

Very nice fly.
I find the surfers out near state college to be on the yellow side, and the sulfurs near Philly to be on the orange side.

FWIW - the photo rig/editing makes the trailing shuck appear as orangish - it is actually more of a rust color - the dubbing is dyed kapok from a well known English company and has the slightest hint of olive - the hackle is from a vintage Metz #1 “Light Dun” cape - this style of fly (in #20 BWO) has taken large Yellowstone Cutts in the park when all else failed. Simple is: hook, trailing shuck, dubbing, 3 wraps of quality hackle sized and colored to your specific needs - I’m not claiming anything new or trying to invent something that someone else “trademarked” - I’ve been tying them since I was shown how in 1987
