"We limit the number of people who can fish each year because we manage for the fish and the ecosystem"
"You'd have to go to labrador to find brook trout of this size"

Macri must be loading his pockets. Stupid rich people make me laugh.

Tight lines

The production quality on that vid is sad. You can do better with a phone.

I kinda feel sorry for them who ever they are.

Most of the water shown on that video appeared to be a section of the Conewago. I have fished that water extensively - that brook trout shown is, shall we say, an anomoly.

BTW, if you wanted to join that section of private water, you don't have to be rich. It had been a couple $100 a year to belong.

He holds up a 2 pounder and says this trout is approaching 6 pounds-lol

Haha this is only 2 miles from my house... nice place and I wouldn't call it a rich club either

I think somebody convinced Macri that it would sound fancy to speak very softly, earnestly, and slowly. But the effect is soporific..."You are getting sleepy...veerrry...sleeeeeepy.."

I wasn't implying that all rich people are stupid or that I am jealous of them. I just think it's funny that people will pay that much to fish there, it seems like a waste of money. They're just pellet fed trout.(pets) You know people that don't know anything about fly fishing are going to pay to fish the brook trout pond just to say they caught a "7 lb native" brookie.(They're missing the whole point of fly fishing for wild trout) Plus they're stocking over the wild (potentially native brook trout) populations and saying they manage for "conservation" not fly fishing. They also say "fishing numbers are limited to preserve the quality", thats how they squeeze the price up,I just find it ironic.

Dear rainbowtrout,

I'm with you, it's just a sham to make some do-re-mi off of suckers.

I did like the pre-spawn ritual of the stocked brook trout though, I mean where were they going to go to do the dance of love, up a sluice pipe?

Macri sold out

Tim Murphy

funny

"we have wild fish"
followed by
"we stock fish"
followed by
"we don't maintain for fishing... rather for the ecology of the stream"

that slideshow on youtube was scary
what kinda drugs is that guy on?

the website is even more of a hoot
"...massive brookies and of course this is catch and release and proper handling of the fish is imperative..."
only to have a picture of this goof bass lipping a fish on a wood dock that is soaked from where the same fished just finished flopping
frank.jpg

some other gems from the site

"...a wild native rainbow from Big Spring Creek Newville PA"
- ah yes those elusive native rainbows

"I am a river keeper who success can be seen everywhere from public to private waters....compare to the water quality of a spring creek like the Letort. However, guess what? This little freestone stream has more wild brown trout over 20 inches in 2 1/4 miles than the entire Letort Spring Run ecosystem!"
- yeah... so does every concrete raceway in the state

this guy is like a blue collar Donny Beaver
and honestly believes stocking large fish over wild populations is "conservation"

Don't miss there "PRIVATE" 3 day quill gordon hatch! ITS AWSOME! Limited openings! HA

Couldn't handle watching it all.
I couldn't either. That clown portrays himself to be some sort of a "scientist", yet he refers to the rainbows as "native"? He sounds like he's doing a eulogy at a funeral service instead of describing a trout stream. What a spanker! lol

Wildtrout,
I'd say as a gentle defense of Gene that his scientific credentials are legit and that he's done a lot of good for wild trout in the Cumberland Valley over the years.

It's a beautiful section of stream that I drive past three days a week. It's been on-again, off-again private club water for over fifty years. When I was young, much of it it was open to the public and was stocked by the PFBC - it was my favorite stretch to hit on opening day back in the 1980s. Since it's been posted, I haven't been back as pay-to-fish-club waters aren't my cup of tea. I have some friends who are members of this club; it's run by a good crew of fellas and the rates to fish are reasonable compared to some better known PA club waters.

A friend of mine took me there once. Awesome, awesome water on the creek. Caught stocked rainbows and brookies and one wild brownie with half its bottom jaw torn off, and then went up the tinyest of tribs and caught multiple natives.
We ended the day up at the ponds where I wasnt allowed to fish and I played photographer. The brookies arent quite the pellet fed pigs one would imagine. I didnt quite understand it cause the ponds looked like they should be exactly that. Very beautiful. The dues were somewhere in the 400's, I think $465.00 per year. Not bad really, but I dont have any desire to go back, even on another free pass.
Perhaps when I get older.

The majority of responders to this thread prove beyond a reasonable doubt what a bunch of clueless idiots you all are. Many of you offer your opinions with zero information and after zero research. Gene has done more for streams in PA and knows more about streams than most of you.

I agree with green weenie in that Macri is a good guy and knows what he is doing. Sure the film was boring but hey, I'm still not gonna knock the guy. I for one would love making a living from fishing and he does it in a good way.
