Posted Signs on West Valley Creek

Hey everyone, just curious if anyone had anymore information about West Valley Creek over by Boot Rd. and Clover Mill Rd. This past summer I would see cars in the little pull off on Clover Mill right by Boot Rd. but driving by today I noticed that there are Posted signs under the delayed artificial harvest signs. Seems they go the almost the whole length of the Delay Harvest section. Have we lost another fishing spot or is this guy trying too keep people off the oppisite side of the creek.

If the posted signs are near the DHALO (special reg signs) and the Spec Reg signs have not been removed I'd assume you can fish. If they were changing the access they would/should have removed the Spec Reg signs.

This is common practice for indicating that the area is open to fishing only according to the special regulations.

Or for that matter if the signs are near ATW signs, Fishing permitted Walk In Only signs, etc.

Ok, was curious because its right next to my gym so on saturdays it would be nice to get that early morning work out and then walk across the street and fish for a few hours.
I am very respectful of posted signs, but that just seemed off that they would block out that whole section. I appreciated the info.

I honestly don't know about the situation specifically. Maurice is right in practice. But note, legally, it is NOT legal to pass a posted sign without permission from the landowner, period. The fact that it's "common practice" is no excuse.

Yeah, i understand Pat. It seems the majority of it is posted north of boot rd but south of boot rd i think i can get in. It just really limits that section of water. Was just curious as i explore places to fish with my new obsession.

I am 100 percent certain those signs are there to keep people out of the quarry. No worries.

Awesome, just made my day. I also just found a thread about this from 2 years ago so I am 99.9% certain i can fish it. Which i actually think i might do this weekend. Need all the practice my newbie self can get before opening day haha.

The Black and White signs are the permission...sheesh!

been fishing there for a pretty long time. posted signs have always been there. just like NickR said, only due to the quarry that is VERY close to the stream.

Been fishing there for several years now with no troubles. I remember the last time they posted signs in the same manner. Key word is "liability". But you are allowed to fish there. Great stretch of water along Clover Mill!

Do the signs just say posted if so not valid without a signature and a date. I have learned the legal part of this with the state police and the wco reality it's to scare off people who are bait heads in my book

This is inaccurate. Signs do not need to be signed or dated in PA.

POSTED means posted.

Don't know why anybody would fish this stretch. Trash all over the place neverending noise from the quarry and trucks to and from the quarry feels like fishing in Love Park in Philly. Travel downstream a couple of miles where Broad Run enters the creek and you have peace and quiet.

The DH signs would not be there if the there was not fishing permitted, unless it is a recent posting.

Thanks for the replies everyone and I just posed the question because i am new to fly fishing. If i was applying how i treat this situation for hunting i never would cross the posted signs and have access to the stream, but since this is a Delayed harvest section i thought it pretty weird the quarry would post it. Wanted to confirm with others that have fished it before that it was posted more to keep people from venturing from the creek into the quarry.

Also i will fish anywhere there are trout. I am an equal opportunity fisherman and all trout have the right to be caught and released even if there is noise and trash all around there home haha. Might even try to clean it up a bit.

Seems like a lot of ambiguous info being offered to the OP. Regarding private land, one should always ask the landowner, if in doubt. The advisers on this board are not going to pay your fine if you are caught. This coming from a landowner who has dealt with trespassing in the past. Just my advise.

As I read the OP. "POSTED" signs were right below (on the same tree). If this were the case, I would assume that the restricting signs trumped the speciial regs signs.

But why wouldn't the landowner remove the permissive signs while posting restrictions? So, I suspect that someone put up the posted signs contrary to landowners' permission or that the landowner was so stupid as to fail to take down the special regs signs. If the "no trespassing" signs were on the other side of the creek, I would assume that the landowner wants to confine your to fishing to the other side.

I would contact your local WCO or the PAFBC in general. They will either know whats going or be interested in finding out themselves.
