I personally am a barbless, fast fight/quick release, small-medium fly, thermometer carrying guy. I fish with lightweight gear and cut off embedded flies, etc. But I think it would be easy to overestimate the angling threat to the small brook trout that live in infertile PA mountain streams. Fishing pressure is typically not high, and its threat is probably a fraction of the high annual rates of natural mortality in such environments. So habitat, more than our visits, determines populations. And big picture, the only thing that is really unethical is lip-synching the national anthem, uh just kidding...

Tim's been here a long time and I have met him and we've cooresponded over the years, so knowing that I'm betting he was yanking our chains just to get some posts going. Then again I don't think he fishes much for brookies so maybe he is serious. Only he knows for sure.

I like to use purple onions in a cold beet salad. The purple onions are much sweeter than white onions or yellow and they go well with beets. If you are a diabetic or borderline diabetic though beets are not good for you. They are very high in natural sugars.

Proformance, I like chili!
 
Interesting fact about onions: The ancient Romans used to rub themselves down with onions because they believed it tightened up the muscles. Think I might try this and hop on into bed with my wife, lol.
 
Better add some garlic too. Red (purple) onions are great with pickled beets. Purple horseradish goes well with Gefilte fish
 
Never tried gefilte fish, purple horseraddish or pickled beets? What is Gefilte fish in English please?
 
I always carry some toilet paper in my right shirt pocket, whether I think I'll need it or not. :lol: I got some really good belly laughs out of this thread!
 
I never understood why people refer to onions that are purple as red onions... they are not red... they are purple?
 
I love onions as long as they are sweet, but I found purple onions many times that are hotter then hades. Likewise Vdialia onions, it has to do with the soils they are grown in.
I've got to make asome pickled beets.
 
Gefilte fish is a chopped up white fish concoction in gelatin, you can find it in the kosher section of your grocery store. It was forced on me as a youngster at Passover. Nick if you are going to the jam I will bring some for all that dare. Its actually not bad
 
On an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry David was trying to impress some guy with his "Jewishness." He claimed to play an instrument in a band. The guy asked Larry what songs did he play and the only think Larry could come up with quickly was "Gefilte Fish Blues."
 
I'm of the opinion that fish don't learn anything other then to eat big food to grow faster. Everything in the water is food for something.
